Officer Gary F. Skerski: Skerski, 46, a 16-year veteran of the police force, was shot and killed on May 8, 2006 responding to a robbery at a cafe at Arrott and Adams Avenues in the Northeast.

Status: Solomon Montgomery pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in 2007 in a deal in which he exchanged a possible death sentence for life in prison without parole. Montgomery, now 28, is serving his sentence at the state prison at Huntingdon in Central Pennsylvania.

Officer Chuck Cassidy: Cassidy, 54, a veteran of 25 years, was shot and killed responding to the armed robbery of a doughnut shop in West Oak Lane on Oct. 31, 2007.

Status: John Lewis was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death last November. Lewis, now 24, is at the state prison in Greene in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Under state law, his conviction and sentence is automatically appealed to the state Supreme Court, where it is pending.

Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski: Liczbinski, 39, a 12-year police veteran, was shot and killed May 3, 2008 as he pursued the getaway car three men who had just robbed a Port Richmond bank.

Status: The shooter and bank robbery mastermind, Howard Cain, 33, was shot and killed the same day in a confrontation with police. His accomplices, Eric DeShann Floyd, 35, and Levon T. Warner, 41, were convicted Wednesday of first degree murder. The jury Monday will begin considering whether they should be executed or sentenced to life in prison.

Officer Isabel Nazario: Nazario, 40, an officer for 18 years, died Sept. 5, 2008 when her patrol car was broadsided in West Philadelphia by a stolen SUV driven by teenager Andre Butler.

Status: Butler, now 18, pleaded guilty June 7 on the first day of trial to third-degree murder in an agreement with prosecutor's office under which he will serve 10 to 20 years in prison. He is serving the sentence at the state prison at Camp Hill, near Harrisburg.

Sgt. Patrick McDonald: McDonald, 30, on the force eight years, was shot to death Sept. 23, 2008 during a car stop in North Philadelphia. The driver, Daniel Giddings, 27, a state parolee who had walked away from his half-way house, fled and shot and killed McDonald during a struggle. Giddings wounded police Officer Richard Bowes before Giddings himself was shot and killed.

Sgt. Timothy Simpson: Simpson, 26, a 20-year veteran, was killed Nov. 17, 2008 when he was responding to a robbery and his patrol car was hit by a drunk driver in Port Richmond.

Status: William Allan Foster, 43, of Levittown, a convicted thief and drug user charged with third-degree murder, homicide by vehicle and other crimes, is schedule to go to trial Oct. 17, 2011 before Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey P. Minehart. He remains in prison in lieu of $2-million bail.

Officer John Pawlowski: Pawlowski, 25, on the police force five years, was shot and killed Feb. 13, 2009 after he and his partner responded to a fight between a cabbie and another man in Logan.

Status: Rasheed Scrugs, 34, who has a long record of arrests for theft, robbery and gun crimes, is scheduled for trial on first-degree murder and related charges on Oct. 4 before Common Pleas Court Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes.
