A southbound Acela express train struck and killed a woman who was trespassing on the tracks at 4:43 p.m. near the Hamilton train station.

Rail service ground to a halt at 5:03 after holds were placed on five or six trains scheduled to pass through central New Jersey, an Amtrak spokeswoman said. Two sets of tracks were reopened at 5:45.
