Police probe sixth home invasion in Northern Liberties

Home invaders struck again last night in Northern Liberties, forcing their way into a house on N. 4th Street at gunpoint and robbing four people of cell phones and cash.

There were no serious injuries, but one of the two suspects punched a woman who tried to flee during the robbery, said Lt. Frank Vanore. Police believe the two suspects may be responsible for five other recent home invasions in Northern Liberties and the surrounding area.

The four victims, two men and two women, had just entered a house on the 1000 block of N. 4th Street around 10:30 p.m. when two men knocked on the door. When one of the women answered, the males asked to use the phone. Suspecting something wasn't right, a man tried to shut the door but one of the suspects drew a gun and forced the door open, police said.

The gunmen forced everyone down to the ground and took wallets and phones. One of the women got up and ran down the street for help, but the gunman chased her and hit her in the head before fleeing.

Police are asking residents of the area to keep alert while returning home, and not open the door to strangers.
