Arrests made in killings of baby, mother, barber

After making arrests in three unrelated homicides, police have released more information on the suspects - a father accused of fatally beating his baby son, a man accused of breaking his mother's neck, and a barber accused of killing a fellow barber in front of customers.

Clavond Gallot, 40, of the 2200 block of Edgley Street in North Philadelphia, has admitted he killed his son, Joshua, 11 months, according to police.

The father called 911 about 6:40 a.m. Saturday to report finding the boy unconscious.

The child, who had bruises to his head, was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 7:01 a.m., police said.

Craig Artis, 45, has also told police about his involvement in the death of his mother, Bessie, 83, according to Homicide Sgt. Tim Cooney.

"There is a statement, yes," he said.

Charged with murder and related offenses, the suspect, who lived with his mother in the 1300 block of S. 46th Street, used his hands to break her neck sometime on Thursday, police said.

About 8:50 Friday morning, the son called police to report her death.

He was officially charged the next day.

The Crazy Hands barbershop in North Philadelphia was open for business Friday night, when Devine Morris, 27, got into a dispute with fellow barber Korvel Odd, 28.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., Morris shot Odd multiple times in the head and shoulders inside the shop, in the 2400 block of West Lehigh Avenue, according to police.

Morris, who lives in the 1900 block of West Chew Avenue in East Germantown, fled but was arrested and charged with murder.

Odd lived in the 6300 block of Horrocks Street in Oxford Circle.
