Teen plunges 4 stories in garage joy ride

A 13-year-old Upper Darby boy took the family SUV for a joy ride that landed him four floors off The Sears Department Store parking garage and on top of a Toyota 4Runner tonight, police said.

The boy persuaded his grandfather to let him use the keys to a 2001 Dodge Durango so that he could remove items from the vehicle. Instead, he drove the SUV around the top level of the parking garage, then lost control of the vehicle, careened over a concrete barrier, crashed through a cyclone fence and nosedived to the street.

The Durango plunged to the street, then flipped over onto a 2006 Toyota 4Runner around 8 o'clock, police said. The boy, who has not been identified by police, crawled out of the SUV. He was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was treated. His injuries reportedly were not life-threatening, police said.
