Fawn regularly swims laps in N.J. backyard pool

The baby deer appeared one day then came back the next day, the day after that, and the day after that, except when it was raining.

Brittney Benincasa returned home after running some errands on June 14 to find a surprise in her Freehold, Monmouth County, backyard: A wet baby deer.

Beniscasa initially thought the fawn had somehow fallen into the backyard pool. She got the number for the local animal control ready, opened all of the gates to give the deer a way out, and waited, NJ.com reported.

"But she kind of just hung out," Benincasa said.

As it turns out, the deer apparently was just sunbathing after a refreshing dip on a hot day.

After hanging out on the pool deck for a little longer, the fawn made its way to the deep end of the pool and used the steps to get into the Jacuzzi by the jets, the story reported.

"Then she just started to pace back and forth near the jets, because she clearly liked the massage, that was very obvious. … And then she just stepped down again and started to swim laps around the pool, like she belonged there. Like she owned the place," Benincasa told NJ.com.

She dialed animal control just to be safe.

The deer eventually got out of the pool and the animal control officer guided her out of the yard, the story reported.

But, it doesn't end there.

The next day, the little fawn slipped between fence rails and was back for another swim. She came back the day after that, and the day after that.

"The only day she didn't come was the day it was raining," Benincasa said.

The family pool is salt water-based and with a dark bottom, and Benincasa speculated that it looks like a pond, not a pool.

"It's cute for the kids and it's clearly an animal that loves to be in the water, just like everyone else on the hot days that we've had lately," Benincasa told NJ.com.
