White Dog Cafe in Wayne catches fire

The White Dog Café in Wayne, Delaware County, was damaged Thursday when a two-alarm fire broke out in the kitchen shortly before lunch time.

The restaurant and offices in the building were evacuated and there were no apparent injuries. Firefighters from the surrounding area fought the 11:45 blaze amidst a heavy downpour and quickly brought it under control, despite calling in a second alarm.

Michael Maguire, Radnor Fire Co. chief, said the fire started in a ventilation shaft near the grill.

"There's going to be a lot of cleanup," Maguire said.

He added that the cause of the fire was unknown and that it remained under investigation.

The White Dog Café occupies the ground floor of a two-story building with offices on the 200 block of Lancaster Avenue. It has a second location in University City.
