The Eagles explored the possibility of acquiring Tennessee Titans tight end Bo Scaife during draft weekend, a league source has told the Nashville City Paper, but eventually nothing came of the discussions.
However, to quote the late great Paul Havey, here is the rest of the story ...
Someone -- perhaps even an overzealous Eagles fan -- changed Scaife's Wikipedia entry to reflect that he had been dealt to the Eagles for Reggie Brown and a third-round pick. (The page has since been fixed.)
"I heard something like that, and my phone was going off the hook. I knew that wasn’t true. I had to sign my deal first before anything like that could go down,” Scaife told Yahoo Sports this week.
The Titans had placed the franchise tag on Scaife in late February but he had not signed the tender until the day after the draft. He will make $4.46 million this season.
Of course, the Eagles, as you knew, selected Florida tight end Cornelius Ingram in the fifth round in what many experts already are calling among the biggest steals in the draft.
Oh, the dangers of the Internet ...
I would still try to get Scaife if we could give Reggie Brown and maybe a fourth. We already have extra picks for next year and will probably get decent compensatory picks for loss of Dawk and Tra. Ingram seems like he could be a project and we don't need another year of Matt Schobel, please. friedmozzarella- I don't know much about Scaife, but if the Titans put the franchise tag on him and are willing to pay him over $4 million this year, I don't think Reggie Brown and a 3rd or 4th round pick is going to get it done. He's a Titan this year. awl
Yawn... the lazy DN staff continues to make news from non-news. I guess it is easier to create than to go out and find real news. I also guess that there are no more "Mr. Grant" types among the editors. NickEeee

i put a WHOLE lot of stock in other teams' franchised players. I wonder what fans of other teams thought it'd take to pry lj smith loose last summer. joeb
Face it fans, there is no real football news this time of year(Favre included). I appreciate any content to feed my Eagles addiction and to spur the thoughtful responses posted above. tommy_the_k
seriously though, this is embarrassing for philly news. you think washington post, new york times, la times would publish such a nonsense story on their homepage?! stay classy philly.com. jayfril
this is a blog, not a news article. when will people realize the difference? joeb
I agree with all of you, pretty sad they they wrote this story. If philly.com ever started charging to read their news, I would never even read this stuff. scars73
Sheldon Brown and Reggie Brown for Bo Scaife might be good for both teams. tacklinjoe
@joeb - it was the main article on the front page of Philly.com for quite awhile this morning, which implies that the web editors of Philly.com thought it deserved headline news status. *That* is why everyone is commenting. Tartan69
Nice research Tartan! Remember that one time Les made up a story about the Eagles wanting to trade Donovan McNabb for a linebacker??? Les should team up with this kid - it would be magical. bjrflyeagles
Franchise tag means nothing. We franchised LJ Smith last year. PhillyPhantastico
Wikipedia is a good example of letting the inmates run the asylum. Sure anyone can edit anything and who gives a sh*t. Some entries can be informative but many are, shall we say, apocryphal or out and out b**sh*t. jbarts- Hey, I just read over at FancyPantsEaglesRants.com that there is an offer for Boldin for a case of cheesesteaks, plus a video of Reid breakdancing. I swear it's true! verve
