Cops rescue dog from neck-deep mud

Police in Chester County are being credited with saving the life of a dog last week after the pup became stuck in neck-deep mud.

Officers with the Willistown Township Police Department responded last Friday to a call from a resident whose dog was found trapped in mud near a stream.

Police said the 13-year-old dog, Pluto, had been missing for three days and was near death. The animal was nearly completely buried, with only his back and the top of his head visible, photos released by police show.

Officer Mike Kushner and Sgt. Mike Martin responded to the scene and "immediately jumped into the mud" to save the pet, police said.

Pluto's owner said the dog was treated at Sugartown Veterinary Hospital in Malvern and is now home recovering.
