Pizzeria workers nab armed robber
A pizzeria predator is now behind bars.
Delaware State Police arrested a 19-year-old Wilmington man yesterday after he picked the wrong pie place to rob. When Nigel Sykes allegedly pointed a gun at employees of Season's Pizza just before 8 p.m. last night, one worker grabbed the firearm and began tussling with Sykes, police said. The gun fired; no one was hit. Three other employees joined the fray, and the workers were able to detain Sykes at the Maryland Avenue eatery until police arrived.
Police charged Sykes, of Shipley Road near Philadelphia Pike, with robbery, gun violations and related offenses. Investigators linked him to eight other armed robberies in Wilmington and Claymont since Sept. 30, including three pizzerias, two fast-food places, two convenience stores and a bank. He is now in the Howard Young Correctional Facility on $710,500 bail.
- Too bad the employees did'nt kill him, he deserved it. Anyone who points a loaded weapon at another person during a robbery should get street justice before a long prison sentence. Goodjob pizza guys., And if anyone wants a great pizza and wings goto Anthony's Coal fired pizza in wilimington.
They should have shot him . Save us all the expense of a trial and keeping him warm in prison .
Joe R.- I am sure he fell by accident a few times hitting his head in the process. 420-24-7

Watch him sue the people who subdued him. Wednesday- He was voted "Most Likey to Get Caught Robbing A Pizza Joint" in high school.
The only thing I can't understand is how he completely unharmed. Sorry, my definition of "subdued" is unconscious. If I'm wrestling with an armed gunman and I win, you better believe they'll have to wait for the swelling to go down before a recognizable mugshot can be performed. jh67

Wait'll Paulie Walnuts hears about this... HTownInTheHouse

I'm surprised the liberals at philly.com enabled comments for this. toccheyhockey
They should have at least broken a couple of his bones for the trouble this young punk caused. 19 years old and he's out sticking up pizza joints. Sheesh. aviator
Why does every bad guy look like this You_know_who_ruined_this_city
This is what I like to see - people being proactive and turning the tables on a criminal instead of cringing and pleading. We need more of this attitude! ivyrose321
They should also have punched his lights out to teach him a good lesson. tonyS
Comment removed.- toccheyhockey: After all, you're entitled to a Comments Section are you not? If there's one thing a bona fide liberal can comprehend it's an entitlement. It's just that you non-liberals don't know how to effectively demand your entitlements. (Besides, it's Christmas - but don't tell City Hall).

Alternate outcome... "Honest, Officer. Have no idea how he wound up in the pizza oven for 20 minutes, at 500 degrees. He must have been trying to hide." Catch22- Next time you try to rob this pizzeria, in the @#%&*! oven you're going head first!
- Once again, you guys are convicting a guy before he's had his day in court. My bet as an average citizen? Guilty as hell. But journalists are not supposed to assume, imply or state guilt. They can allege. They can say he's accused. But they can't outright call the dude a "pizzeria predator" unless and until he's tried and found guilty. I see this sloppiness happening more and more at the two Philly newspapers. Didn't your reporters go to j-school? Don't your editors actually edit? This never would have happened in the old days.
Wack that thug animal over the head with one of the pizza paddles
Good thing that scum is off the street, one less piece of dirt to worry about......Blame the parents not the children.....19 years old with no parental control for how many years. merchandiser
If this scumbag is over 18 years old, why was he sent to a juvenile detention center? What???
Catch 22 ~ Hilarious! They should have been calling the coroner, not the police, for sure!
Sad that all blacks have to be labeled because of so many of these "dirtbags", really, they are a disgrace to their own race. There are many professional, society contributing black individuals; sorry for the majority that have to cause this racism. No I'm not black, but I have empathy for the good people who are degraded because of them. change1- topofthehiller, take that sh*t somewhere else
- So does he have something against food or just against people who actually work for a living? Ilmare
- @topofthehiller: A lot of things are happening now that wouldn't have happened in the "old days." Yes, you're right that as journalists, the Inky reporters should be more careful in their accusations (the the old timers did it from time to time too) but I don't know if you could have picked a worse example. It's hard to say "alleged" when the pizza guys actually caught him. Ilmare
