All lanes reopen on Ben Franklin Bridge after tractor-trailer crash

All lanes have reopened after overturned tractor-trailer caused major delays for commuters Friday morning on the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.

The incident happened on the westbound lanes, heading into Philadelphia.

Two westbound lanes were closed due to the crash for more than three hours, prompting major traffic back-ups on the bridge. The Delaware River Port Authority said at about 9:45 a.m. that all lanes on the bridge had reopened.

Motorists experienced significant delays as crews worked to clear the scene. While authorities responded to the accident, PATCO honored New Jersey Transit bus tickets for travel between Camden and Philadelphia. N.J. Transit said bus service on the bridge saw delays.

The accident is the second recent crash involving a westbound truck overturning at the base of the bridge in Philadelphia. In mid-March, an overturned fruit truck disrupted motorists for more than 14 hours, as lanes were shut down for an extended clean-up operation.
