One dead, one injured in NE Philly car crash

One person was killed and another person was injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle accident in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

The accident occurred at 9:20 a.m. on 700 East Godfrey Avenue, trapping the victims in one of the vehicles, authorities said.

A 71-year-old male was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on Tabor Road and made a left turn at the intersection with Godfrey, striking a blue van that was headed northbound on Tabor Road, police said.

The driver of the Corolla suffered head and leg injuries, and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Corolla was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.
