Man gunned down on South Philly street

A man was killed Saturday night during a shooting in the Hawthorne section of South Philadelphia.

A man was killed Saturday night during a shooting in the Hawthorne section of South Philadelphia.

Police said gunfire erupted shortly before 11:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of Catharine Street.

Arriving officers found a 30-year-old man lying in front of a property on the 800 block of South 13th Street.

He was rushed to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

The man's identity was not being released Saturday pending family notification. Investigators had not disclosed a motive for the shooting, and no arrests had yet been reported.

As with all homicides, there is a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
