Jockey shot in strange Bucks break-in charged

A young horse-racing prodigy who was shot by an apartment resident in Bensalem late last month after allegedly masturbating on a woman's deck and breaking into two apartments was charged yesterday in the bizarre rampage.

Angel Suarez Medero, 21, a promising jockey who rode primarily at Parx Casino in Bensalem, was charged with burglary and related offenses, according to Bensalem police. His bail was set yesterday at $250,000, and police said he will be remanded to county jail once he is medically cleared.

The bizarre events that got the young jockey into trouble began about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 28, when police say a woman who lives in the Franklin Commons Apartments — where Medero also resides — discovered a man, later identified as Medero, masturbating on her deck and called police. When the woman fled her apartment, Medero allegedly broke in through her sliding glass door and then jumped out her second-floor window and broke into another apartment nearby. In that apartment, police said, Medero assaulted two residents before being shot twice — in the chest and abdomen — by a resident with a legally registered gun.

Medero was hospitalized in critical condition after the incident and charged yesterday.
