A massive swarm of police has converged near a Wilmington, Del., intersection to hunt down the suspect accused of shooting a Delaware state trooper Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said the 44-year-old trooper was around 4 p.m. shot in the arm at East 24th and Market streets. He was taken to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where he is in stable condition and being treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Delaware State Police are on the scene, along with officers from the New Castle County and Wilmington Police Departments.

Police said it's too early in the developing investigation to give more information regarding the suspect or the circumstances that led to the shooting. For now, investigators are just glad the trooper is alive and focused on finding the person responsible for the crime.

Officials have advised the public to find alternate travel routes and avoid the area as the manhunt unfolds.
