A gas man break in Kensington Thursday afternoon caused the evacuation of 10 homes.
Firefighters shortly after 3 p.m. responded to the 2900 block of E Street for a report of a natural gas odor, according to Philadelphia Fire Department Capt. Clifford Gilliam. Philadelphia Gas Works employees arrived a short time later to investigate the source of the leak. Gilliam said PGW officials believe there was a break in a 6-inch gas main and are working to repair it.
Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution until the leak is placed under control. There is not yet word on when they may be able to return to their homes.
