Fire breaks out at Abington YMCA

An overnight fire has caused damage to a child-care center at the Abington YMCA.

The blaze at the fitness facility at 1073 Old York Road was reported at about 4 a.m., according to Montgomery County dispatchers.

Crews encountered flames at the YMCA's child-development center, dispatchers said.

The fire was declared under control at 4:40 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but the center says on its Facebook page that all child-care programs at the YMCA are canceled today.

Programs held at elementary schools will operate as scheduled.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the extent of the damage to the facility wasn't immediately known.
