2 killed in Gloucester County crashes

Authorities are investigating two fatal crashes in Gloucester County this morning.

N.J. State Police said one person died in an accident on northbound Route 55, near mile marker 40 in Franklin Township.

Television news footage showed a van that had crashed into a tree. Additional details about the crash, which happened shortly before 6:30 a.m., weren't immediately available.

Motorists should expect delays in the area. As of about 9 a.m., all lanes remained closed but traffic was using the shoulder to get by, according to the N.J. Department of Transportation.

Earlier, a tractor-trailer was involved in a crash with another vehicle on the N.J. Turnpike near the interchange with U.S. 322 in East Greenwich Township.

One person was killed in the 5:30 a.m. crash, police said.

Troopers remain on the scene investigating.
