Ex-treasurer accused of stealing $64,000 from Horsham Soccer group

The former treasurer of a youth soccer organization in Montgomery County is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the group.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office alleges that Daniel Heinze stole $64,292 from the Horsham Soccer Association while serving as the organization's treasurer from November 2009 to November 2013.

During that time, authorities said, the 50-year-old Ambler resident wrote 23 checks from the association's account and deposited them in his personal bank accounts.

Heinze forged the signatures of the association's presidents on the checks and altered the group's financial records to cover up the deposits, prosecutors said.

The association's board discovered discrepancies in its financial records at the end of 2013 and contacted police.

Heinze is facing charges of felony theft, receiving stolen property, forgery and other offenses.

The club's leadership has been working with police regarding the case, association president Christopher Hurrell wrote in a message on the group's website.

"We assure you the existence of our club is not in jeopardy," Hurrell wrote. "Every action has been taken to make sure something like this incident will not happen again."
