Bullet fractures teen's pelvis in Swampoodle

An 18-year-old suffered a fractured pelvis during a shooting at Bonsall and Somerset streets in the Swampoodle section of North Philadelphia.

An 18-year-old suffered serious injuries Saturday night during a shooting in the Swampoodle section of North Philadelphia.

The teen, having just finished riding his bicycle around the neighborhood, was standing with two other males on the corner of Bonsall and Somerset streets about 11:15 p.m., when three gunshots sounded, according to preliminary police information.

The group dispersed, and the 18-year-old realized he'd been shot in his right buttocks.

He was taken by private vehicle to Temple University Hospital, where doctors discovered the bullet had fractured his pelvis and fragmented inside.

The victim told investigators he didn't see who shot him, and he refused to name the other men with whom he was standing when the shooting took place, police said.

There wasn't word on a suspect or motive Sunday, and police reported no arrest.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Philadelphia police.
