Collapsed building near Temple U. had been slated for demolition

The North Philadelphia rowhouse that collapsed this morning near Temple University had been scheduled for demolition last week after parts of the structure's front wall crumbled onto the sidewalk.

The remainder of the building's facade, at 18th and Page Streets, gave way today about 10:55 a.m., police said. No one was injured.

The building, at 2020 N. 18th Street, was deigned ID, or imminently dangerous, last week. Shortly afterward, the city gathered emergency curbside bids for its demolition. A contractor was beginning to tear it down today when it collapsed.
