Bolaris: Another brush with snow coming

After a nice break today, with temperatures finally kissing the 40 degree mark, another round of winter weather is about to move in.

After a nice break today, with temperatures finally kissing the 40 degree mark, another round of winter weather is about to move in.

A storm system will be moving off the North Carolina coast, which will produce a massive amount of snow, sleet and freezing rain across the Tennessee Valley and parts of the Mid-Atlantic region. Fortunately, we won't see the worst of it. Some places in the mountains of West Virginia and the Carolinas will receive over 10 inches of snow.

That storm system, luckily for us, will be taking a southern track, not up the coast but off the coast.

It will graze portions of the area with snow. Right now, it appears 2 to 3 inches could fall across parts of southern Delaware and into Cape May County. Those areas will see accumulations during the morning rush.

As for Philadelphia and the immediate surrounding suburbs, we could pick up a quick coating of snow. But anything more than that would be a surprise.

The storm system will pull away Thursday afternoon and in its wake will follow another blast of frigid air. Temperatures by Friday morning will once again be in the single digits.

As for the weekend, after a cold start Friday we're looking at a moderating trend through Sunday. March will come in like a little wet lamb. A liquid event may reach us late Sunday or early Monday.

Winter is still far from over, as March can be a volatile month with extreme highs and lows. The long-range trends are still indicating no big warm-up in sight. And we're not out of the woods yet as far as accumulating snow.
