Man sought in attack on transgender woman
Philadelphia police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly struck a transgender woman and called her homophobic and transphobic slurs near City Hall on Friday.
Philadelphia police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly struck a transgender woman and called her homophobic and transphobic slurs near City Hall on Friday.
At about 4:40 p.m., a transgender woman was walking with two friends on JFK Boulevard near Broad Street when they were approached by an unknown man on the sidewalk in front of the Masonic Temple, according to police.
As words were exchanged, the man struck the victim while shouting homophobic and transphobic slurs, police said.
A video showed the man holding a plastic bag and a packaged food item. He appeared to throw the packaged item at the person holding a camera and to have struck that person with the plastic bag. He then fled, running north on Broad Street, police said.
The suspect, believed to be in his early 20s, has a thin build and no facial hair. He was wearing an orange-and-black hooded jacket and brown pants.
