Police: Store owner shoots would-be robber

A 30-year-old man who attempted to rob an automobile-repair shop in the Elmwood section of Philadelphia Saturday night was shot three times by the store's owner before he was arrested by police.

Around 6:30 p.m., the man, who was not identified by police, attempted to rob the store in the 6800 block of Paschall Avenue. The owner shot the man once in the chest, once in the right shoulder, and once in the buttocks.

Police did not release the name of the business. A sign on the front of the building identifies it as C&L Auto Repair.

The robber was arrested and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
