Donte Brooks Island, 34, of Upper Darby, is charged with 14 counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and related charges. He faced a district judge during a preliminary hearing in Secane.

He is accused of shooting Christopher Dorman, a part-time officer with the Folcroft Borough Police Department, who had responded to a report of a drug deal in the 1500 block of Elmwood Avenue.

Police said Island fired seven shots at the officer from a .40-caliber pistol, hitting Dorman in the face through both cheeks, in his groin, in a leg, and four times in his chest.
