A 23-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday night in the city's Oak Lane section and her 35-year-old boyfriend, who was found covered in blood, was being questioned by detectives, police said.

About 10:10 p.m., police were called to an apartment complex in the 100 block of East Godfrey Avenue, across the border from Olney, and found the woman — identified Wednesday morning as Lajade Parham — in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene at 10:30 p.m.

Police also found the woman's live-in boyfriend inside the apartment. He was covered in blood but could not explain what had happened, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. He was taken to be questioned.

The couple's 1-year-old boy was also in the apartment and was not harmed. Police found a shotgun laying on the grass outside. It has not been fired, Small said.
