Same men, same Mercedes sought in Boyds, Macy's burglaries

Police on Friday continued searching for men they believe drove the same stolen Mercedes-Benz sedan to two smash-and-grabs this week - Tuesday at Boyds Philadelphia in Center City, allegedly netting $45,000 in luxury clothing, and Thursday at a Macy's in Northeast Philadelphia, taking $16,000 worth of Movado watches.

On Friday, police released additional details about the burglary at Macy's in the Roosevelt Mall. They said three men entered the store at 2:27 p.m. Thursday wearing ski masks, jeans, hoodies, and gloves. The men headed to the Movado case display, police said, where one of them allegedly smashed the glass with a hammer.

They grabbed watches from the case and threw them into trash bags, police said, then fled in the Mercedes, which authorities said is a silver S350 model from 2012 with Pennsylvania license plate HVA-3241.

The same car was used in the burglary of Boyds at 4:41 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Security footage released by police shows six to eight men in hoodies running inside through a smashed display window, stealing clothing, and bringing it back outside to the Mercedes waiting in front of the store, on the 1800 block of Chestnut Street. The men smashed the window by backing a red 2016 Toyota Rav4 into it. That vehicle has been recovered, police said.

Police said Thursday they believe the same three men sought in the Macy's burglary had been among the group in the Boyds burglary.

Anyone with information on either crime is encouraged to call Central Detectives, 215-686-3093.
