Blind man falls off subway platform, killed by train
A blind man who fell off of a platform at SEPTA's Race-Vine Station this afternoon in Center City was struck and killed by a Broad Street Line train, according to police.
A blind man who fell off of a platform at SEPTA's Race-Vine Station Wednesday afternoon in Center City was struck and killed by a Broad Street Line train, according to police.
The 53-year-old man stumbled and hit a pole before falling on the tracks around 4:30 p.m., police said.
He was hit by a southbound train and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Several stations along the Broad Street line including Race-Vine, City Hall, Spring Garden, and Fairmount were closed for about 90 minutes as Philadelphia and SEPTA police investigated.
Full service to all stations resumed around 6:10 p.m.
The man's identity has not been released.
