Road closures are set for Free Streets event

Ten miles of Philadelphia streets - including all of South Street - will be closed to motor vehicles Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the first Philly Free Streets event.

Ten miles of Philadelphia streets - including all of South Street - will be closed to motor vehicles Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the first Philly Free Streets event.

The route runs from Front Street and South to the South Street Bridge, then to the Schuylkill River Trail, into West Fairmount Park and Parkside, and up Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to the Falls Bridge. Streets in West Fairmount Park will be closed for activities.

City Managing Director Mike DiBerardinis will officially open Philly Free Streets by leading an 8 a.m. bike ride from Second Street and South.

Mayor Kenney will lead a mile-long power walk from the same location at 9 a.m.

Other activities include a 2-mile group run from the Art Museum at 9 a.m., strength training, boot camp, a scavenger hunt, yoga, Zumba, and trampoline jumping.
