2nd suspect nabbed in attempted murder of Philly food deliveryman

A second suspect has been charged in the June kidnapping, robbery, and attempted murder of a 34-year-old deliveryman in Kingsessing, police announced Friday.

A second suspect has been charged in the June kidnapping, robbery, and attempted murder of a 34-year-old deliveryman in Kingsessing, police announced Friday.

Brian Jones, 22, of the 5500 block of Litchfield Street in Kingsessing, was arrested Thursday as investigators executed a search warrant at his home, police said. Jones tried to flee by jumping out a third-floor window but was caught in the alleyway, police said.

He was charged with attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping, and related offenses, and was awaiting arraignment Friday afternoon, police said.

A 17-year-old, Donovan Daniels, was charged earlier this month in the same crime and was being held on $2 million bail, court records show.

Jones and Daniels are said to have approached a man making a food delivery on the 5700 block of Beaumont Avenue after 10 p.m. June 6. Police say Jones pointed a gun at the deliveryman, whom police did not identify, and forced him back into his gold 1998 Toyota Corolla.

Jones and Daniels then drove with the deliveryman to an unknown location, and ordered him to get out of the car and onto his knees, police said. As they demanded money from the man, police said, he "heard a loud pop and felt something hit the back of his head." The man then ran to the 1600 block of South 59th Street, where responding officers found him with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Jones and Daniels are accused of stealing his car, cellphone, wallet, and $60 in cash, according to police. Authorities recovered the car that night on the 1700 block of South 57th Street.

Daniels, of the 5700 block of Warrington Avenue in Kingsessing, was arrested Aug. 12 after a brief foot pursuit in Frankford, police said.

Jones, who is accused of shooting the deliveryman, was scheduled to face trial in another robbery case in October, according to court records.

Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives credited investigators with being patient in pursuing both suspects.

"It was a very difficult case and we're very happy" with the arrests, he said.
