THE SUMMER is officially underway, the temperature is heating up and, just in time, Philadelphia's public pools are opening.

The first of the city's 70 free public pools - the most per-capita of any city in the country - started opening on Wednesday. All of the pools will open by July 1.

Pools are open citywide from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, and noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, according to the city Parks and Recreation Department.

Anyone can swim from 1 to 4 p.m. Family and adult swim hours vary by pool.
