Eagles' Agholor under investigation for alleged sexual assault at strip club

Philadelphia police are investigating an allegation that Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor sexually assaulted an exotic dancer Thursday at a South Philadelphia strip club.

Philadelphia police are investigating an allegation that Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor sexually assaulted an exotic dancer Thursday at a South Philadelphia strip club.

The Eagles on Friday confirmed that Agholor was being investigated by police.

Agholor's attorney, Fortunato N. Perri Jr., said his client "has not engaged in any criminal conduct."

At a news conference Friday afternoon at Police Headquarters, police spokesman Lt. John Stanford declined to identify the person under investigation because no charges had been filed. He said the probe was being conducted by the Special Victims Unit, which handles allegations of sexual misconduct.

"We are aware of the police investigation involving Nelson Agholor," the Eagles said in a statement. "The organization has been in contact with Nelson and with the proper authorities in Philadelphia."

Stanford said the accusation was made by a 27-year-old woman who works at Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club, 2740 S. Front St. The alleged incident took place about 3 p.m. Thursday - just two hours after the Eagles' three-day minicamp ended - and was reported that evening, Stanford said.

Perri said of Agholor, "We are confident that he will not be charged with a crime."

Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin said that he and defensive end Fletcher Cox had accompanied Agholor to Cheerleaders, but that he left before the alleged incident.

Barwin said in a statement that he was "only present at the establishment for a very short period of time" and had "no knowledge about anything that happened" after he left around 2:30 p.m.

It was not immediately known whether surveillance footage of the alleged incident exists, Stanford said, adding that the club is equipped with cameras.

Agholor's agent, Edward "Tory" Dandy, did not respond to a request for comment.

Agholor, 23, a native of Nigeria, played college football at the University of Southern California. He was the Eagles' 2015 first-round draft pick and the 20th overall pick in that year's NFL draft.
