Philadelphia police on Thursday were seeking the public's help in identifying a motorist who hit a man who was out running Sunday afternoon in Holmesburg.

The driver fled the scene, leaving the victim critically injured on the roadway.

About 3 p.m. Sunday, a 44-year-old man was running on the 7600 block of Rowland Avenue when a man driving a dark-colored Saturn sedan south on Rowland struck the victim from behind, police said.

The crash caused the victim to hit the driver's windshield before landing on the road.

The victim was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale hospital, where he was in critical condition Sunday.

The driver continued driving south on Rowland before turning east on Oakmont Street, police said.

Surveillance video showed the car with a shattered windshield, front-end damage, a rear spoiler, and a driver's-side front tire that is either missing a hub cap or is a spare "donut" tire, police said.

The car was driven by a white man who was about 20 to 30 years old, with dark-colored hair and wearing a blue shirt, police said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or the Accident Investigation District at 215-685-3180.
