Philly shootings leave 2 dead, 6 wounded

Police are looking for the gunmen involved in a spate of shootings that left two men dead and six others wounded across Philadelphia.

Police are looking for the gunmen involved in a spate of shootings that left two men dead and six others wounded across Philadelphia.

Authorities on Tuesday identified the two men who died from shootings Monday, and said six others were shot in four crimes Monday night and Tuesday morning.

The slain men were identified as Maurice Wideman, 25, who was shot in what police said was a robbery attempt on the 4100 block of Cambridge Street in the Belmont section of West Philadelphia early Monday, and Jose Pimentel, 37, who was shot in the head and chest on the 4200 block of North Fairhill Street in Hunting Park on Sunday night.

Pimentel was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition and died at 10:03 a.m. Monday, police said. The motive in his killing was not known.

The most recent of the nonfatal shootings happened about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, when a man was critically wounded after being shot four times in Kensington.

Police said the 28-year-old victim was shot on the 2900 block of B Street and suffered wounds to his left eye, neck, back, and right knee. The man was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

No arrests were reported and no suspect description was available.

That followed a bloody Monday night in which five people were shot in three incidents during a five-hour span.

Shortly after 10:30, two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds on the 7600 and 7700 blocks of City Avenue in Overbrook Park, police said.

A 25-year-old man who was shot in his chest, an arm and a leg was on the sidewalk near an empty black 2016 Ford Fusion, while the second victim, whose age was not known, was found on the sidewalk a block away.

Both were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.

About an hour earlier, a 24-year-old man went to Hahnemann University Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. A person who drove the man to the hospital told police the shooting happened inside a recording studio on the 400 block of North Third Street in Old City.

Police said detectives found an unspecified projectile and a large amount of blood in the studio, but further details about what happened weren't available.

Also Monday night, a tow-truck driver and a passenger were wounded in a shooting on the 1400 block of Blavis Street in Nicetown, but the driver managed to drive the pair to Temple hospital.

The 30-year-old driver was shot in his lower back and a 28-year-old male passenger was struck in his right shoulder when someone opened fire into the vehicle at about 5:30 p.m.

The tow truck driver told police he had been involved in a dispute with the gunman over money. Both victims were listed in stable condition.
