Double shooting in Nicetown, one in critical condition

A tow-truck driver who was critically wounded by gunfire in the city's Nicetown section was able to drive himself and another shooting victim to the hospital late Monday afternoon, police said.

The 30-year-old driver was shot once in the chest about 5:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Blavis Street, said Chief Inspector Scott Small. A 28-year-old man in the passenger seat suffered a graze wound in the shoulder.

The older man, who lives in the neighborhood, drove the pair to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Monday night but was expected to survive. His passenger was in stable condition.

The men identified their assailant by a nickname and the suspect was last seen driving away from the scene in a burgundy-colored Saturn Ion, Small said.
