A 21-year-old man was shot and wounded about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in West Philadelphia, police said.

The victim was standing on the sidewalk on the 5100 block of Market Street with about four other men when one man in the group pulled out a gun and fired multiple times at the victim, hitting him twice, Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives said.

Walker said the victim was shot once in the left thigh and once in the left rib-cage area. He said police took the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery and was in stable condition.

The shooter, a black man in his early 20s and wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans, was last seen running east on Market Street, Walker said. He said police did not have a suspect and were still investigating the shooting.
