Snow showers cross region; more possible

Vigorous snow showers passed through parts the region Thursday morning, leaving up to a half-inch of snow, and more are possible.

The snow dusted roadways, and slowed rush-hour traffic for a time, but no incidents were reported.

The showers could continue for the next few hours, the National Weather Service says, possbily reducing visibilities to under a mile.

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to predict precisely where they will hit, said Valerie Meola at the weather service office in Mount Holly. The features triggering the showers are too small-scale to be captured by computer models.

Meola said the weather service has received unconfirmed reports of up to a half inch from showers that moved from Montgomery County through Northeast Philadelphia and Burlington County. The weather service office measured 0.3 inches.

The snow is being incited by strong winds from the west and northwest, passing over the Great Lakes. "Any moisutre off the lakes can make it all the way down here," she said.

Squalls and showers also are possible Friday night.
