A Camden County corrections officer is accused of assaulting a handcuffed and subdued inmate last year.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said Monday that 43-year-old John Stinsman, a sergeant in the county's Department of Corrections, was facing charges of official misconduct, aggravated assault and simple assault.

The Pennsauken resident allegedly kicked and stomped on a male inmate on Oct. 27, 2015, according to prosecutors. Video footage showed Stinsman assaulted the male inmate after the prisoner had been subdued and placed in handcuffs, which was contrary to the sergeant's incident report, prosecutors said.

Jail officials discovered the assault during a routine review of reports and surveillance footage.

Stinsman has been released after posting $50,000 bail.

He has been suspended without pay, county spokesman Dan Keashen said.
