MONTGOMERY TWP. A new park is in the works that would honor the alliance between South Korea and the United States, and memorialize those who served in the Korean War.

Officials are holding an open house Thursday to display plans for the American-Korean Alliance Peace Park and war memorial, which would be added to the grounds of Montgomery Township's Memorial Grove Park.

Memorial Grove already features a walking path, plaques, and a sundial memorial to those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The park is to be built with donations; fund-raisers are ongoing.

Montgomery County's Korean population grew 49 percent from 2000 to 2010, and is among the top 20 among U.S. counties, according to 2000 census data analyzed by California State University Los Angeles.

The open house will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Horsham VFW Post 9788, 324 Sawmill Lane. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public, but Korean War veterans and their families are being encouraged to RSVP to their local legislators. For Rep. Thomas Murt's office, call 215-674-3755. For Rep. Kate Harper's office, call 610-277-3230. For Rep. Todd Stephens' office, call 215-368-5168. - Jessica Parks
