as $1.4M available for conservation projects

DOYLESTOWN Officials for the county's Natural Areas Program said they are accepting applications for funding through Dec. 31.

The program, part of the Bucks County Open Space Program, provides money to "protect biological diversity throughout the county."

Program officials said that approximately $1.4 million is still available to "preserve properties with unique natural features."

Since 2007, the program has completed 88 projects and protected more than 3,700 acres, officials said. They said they expect these applications to be the final round of the program and will obligate the remaining funds allocated in the 2007 bond issue.

Funding through the program is available to municipalities and land trusts and may be used to acquire conservation easements on private property and acquire land to ensure perpetual protection of the resources.

Applications are available online at http://www.buckscounty.org/government/CommunityServices/PlanningCommission/OS/NaturalAreas.
