A man seeking medical treatment at Einstein Medical Center for a cut on his head Thursday was arrested in the stabbing of a man in West Oak Lane who had just been transported to the same hospital, police said Friday.

Loanell Ellington, 56, of the 2000 block of East Rittenhouse Street, was charged with attempted murder and related offenses in an attack on a 49-year-old man at a market in the 6700 block of Ogontz Avenue about 1:15 a.m.

Police found the victim lying on the floor with stab wounds to his chest and stomach. The officers rushed him to Einstein, where he was admitted in extremely critical condition.

Around that time, Ellington walked into the Einstein emergency room with a cut on his head that was bleeding heavily, police said.

Officers detailed at the hospital approached Ellington, who allegedly shouted, "I stabbed him!" Police found a large kitchen knife covered in blood on the floor of a burgundy Dodge pickup truck parked outside the hospital.
