First case of West Nile virus reported, is seventh in state

DOYLESTOWN Bucks County on Thursday recorded its first human West Nile virus case for 2015, making it the state's seventh so far this year.

That means the majority of human cases so far have been in the Philadelphia region, with Chester County recording one case and Montgomery County confirming two.

West Nile is a potentially deadly virus transmitted by mosquitoes. A Bucks County man died from the disease in 2013. County health departments and the Department of Environmental Protection have been releasing mosquito spray over the course of much of the summer to prevent the spread. - Ben Finley
