Police are investigating a rash of recent burglaries at homes near the Drexel University campus.

A safety notice from the university's police department said five residential burglaries were reported between Saturday and Monday in the Poweltown Village area near campus.

Three of the incidents happened between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday, two at apartments on the 3200 block of Poweleton Avenue and one at a home on the 3200 block of Summer Street, officials said.

The other two occurred Monday, between 8:55 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., both at an apartment on the 300 block of North 33rd Street.

Authorities said electronics, backpacks and jewelry were taken from the residences.

In the Saturday cases, the burglars got into the homes through unlocked windows or doors. The apartments burglarized Monday were entered by force.

The safety notice said campus police and security officers have stepped up vehicle, bike and foot patrols in the area. Students are urged to lock their doors and windows.
