A former maintenance worker at a Montgomery County camp and a nearby bar has been charged with raping a girl six years ago when she was 6.

David Fichter, 47, of Schwenksville, was arrested last week in the rape of the girl, police announced Tuesday. The alleged rapes occurred, police said, at both Camp Hope for Kids and Crazy Carl's Bar in Lower Frederick Township. Fichter worked as a maintenance caretaker at the camp and the bar, police said.

Lower Frederick police began an investigation when they learned of the accusation earlier this month, with help from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office and the Pennsylvania State Police. Investigators did not disclose how they learned of the accusations.

Fichter is charged with five counts of rape, several counts of statutory sexual assault, and related crimes. He was arraigned Thursday before District Judge James Gallagher and held on $500,000 bail. - Laura McCrystal
