Atlantic City police fatally shot a man who stabbed another man to death inside a store Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the Cedar Market at Adriatic and Pennsylvania Avenues when police responded to a 911 call. Officers found the suspect outside and shot him during a confrontation, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

It declined to provide details of that confrontation, including how many officers fired and if any had been put on administrative duty pending an investigation.

The suspect was pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

The victim was found dead inside the store, authorities said. The Prosecutor's Office would not identify the victim or suspect Tuesday afternoon. The owner of the market also did not return a call.

Coworkers told 6ABC that the victim was a store clerk, Peter Safwat Embarall, 29, and that he had recently come back from a trip to Egypt to visit family.

The Prosecutor's Office said detectives were collecting video footage of the incident and interviewing witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call the office at 609-909-7800.
