PECO: 260,000 lost power in storms

Over 40,000 homes and businesses in Chester and Delaware Counties remained without power late Thursday as a result of the potent storms that ripped through the region on Tuesday.

Over 40,000 homes and businesses in Chester and Delaware Counties remained without power late Thursday as a result of the potent storms that ripped through the region on Tuesday.

In all, about 260,000 PECO customers had lost power because of storm-related damage, a PECO spokewsoman said.

She said that the majority of customers should have power by late Friday night but that some might have to wait until later in the weekend.

In Delaware County, a shelter at the Brookhaven Borough Hall will remain open 24 hours until power has been restored to all residents, officials said. Because of power problems, the county's Government Center and Courthouse in Media didn't open until noon Thursday.
