AN ARGUMENT over a woman escalated into a deadly shooting early yesterday in an Olney bar, an eyewitness told the Daily News.

A 28-year-old man was found dead about 2:15 a.m. outside the Old Madrid Bar, on 5th Street near Fisher Avenue - one of two fatal assaults yesterday that occurred at city bar establishments, Philadelphia police said.

The Olney bar victim was allegedly shot by an Old Madrid security guard who told authorities he fired his weapon in self-defense, police said.

The beef originally began inside the bar shortly before the 2 a.m. closing, according to a source who witnessed the crime, but who didn't want to be identified in the media. The victim, whose identity is being withheld by police pending family notification, and another customer began to argue over a woman and it became heated between the men, the source said.

One security guard walked the victim outside while the other guard stayed with the second customer inside Old Madrid, the source said. The victim's anger turned toward the security guard inside, the source said, but it wasn't clear why.

The guard allegedly told the victim in Spanish, "Hey crazy, leave. Leave. Avoid problems."

The victim didn't leave and was joined by three friends who had been inside the bar with him, the source said. When the security guard inside the bar walked outside, the victim lunged for him and apparently held a bottle in his hand, the source said. The guard pulled out his licensed gun and shot the victim once.

The interaction was caught "clearly" by one of Old Madrid's 24 surveillance cameras, the source said.

The victim was pronounced dead at 2:27 a.m. by medics, police said.

No charges had been filed as of last night, police said.

Meanwhile. police in North Philadelphia were called about 2 a.m. yesterday to the Johnny Aces Bar, on 29th Street near Chalmers Avenue, and found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died shortly before 4 a.m.

Police said there was an altercation between the dead man and the bar's owner. There are no charges as of last night.
