Sobriety checkpoint set for this weekend

NETHER PROVIDENCE TWP. The Nether Providence Police Department announced Thursday that it will conduct a sobriety checkpoint Friday through Sunday between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.

The checkpoint, police said, will focus on identifying drug- and alcohol-impaired drivers before they get involved in a collision, "thereby increasing the safety for all motorists on the township roadways."

In a statement, the police said, "This event symbolizes the commitment of the Nether Providence Police Department toward reducing the number of DUI incidents and decreasing the number of alcohol/drug-related traffic collisions as well as alcohol/drug-related traffic fatalities." - Inquirer staff
