Phila. City Council's website hacked

The morning after Tuesday's election, Philadelphia City Council's website was hacked and replaced by a sparse black Web page with white text reading: "I am Muslim & Islam is my way of Life."

On Twitter, Cyber ComandOs, a group that identifies itself as a Muslim hacker team, took responsibility for the cyber attack. Efforts to reach the Cyber ComandOs were unsuccessful.

City government sites, which are hosted separately from Council's, were not affected by the breach, according to Jane Roh, spokeswoman for Council President Darrell L. Clarke. Roh said no city information that would be considered sensitive was compromised or accessed.

She said the site was hacked about 7 a.m. The service provider was temporarily locked out but was able to regain access and restore Council's site by about 10:15 a.m., she said.

"We have no information on who is behind the hacking," Roh said in a statement. "The website software has been updated to address vulnerabilities."

Roh said both the Police Department and city's Office of Innovation and Technology were working with Council to prevent future cyber attacks.
