Philabundance founder named Pearl S. Buck woman of the year

PERKASIE Pearl S. Buck International announced this week that it had named Philabundance founder Pamela Rainey Lawler its 2015 woman of the year.

Lawler founded Philabundance in 1984, and it has turned into one of the region's largest hunger-relief organizations. In 2005, it merged with the Philadelphia Food Bank. The organization serves more than 65,000 people per week.

Lawler will be honored at a dinner in Perkasie on Thursday. The organization said it will also mark her selection by coordinating a food collection effort for the Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton.

Past winners include Toni Morrison and Laura Bush, the organization said.
